BE: Marriage
What I thought about the essays I read in this chapter is that in my opinion marriage is still the one thing that most couples look for because honestly who wants to end up alone, I know I do not. Some people might think that they do not want to get married because they think it is dumb or old fashioned. I believe that getting married is a moment that everyone wants to experience since their childhood. I think that marriage is still alive and strong today because people that say they will never get married end up getting married because they realize they need that special person with them every day of their lives. It might sound dumb to some people like the ones that think they want to be single and young forever. Reality check people, you are getting old by the second and once you turn really old, there is less of an opportunity of getting married. If you actually get married at an old age, there is a higher risk of getting a divorce for dumb reasons. In my opinion getting married is and forever will be in the social fabric because as soon as your friends start finding husbands and wives, you will do the same because you realize that you want that happiness that your friends are going through. Once your friends get married you realize that your youth is fading away and that without them you lost everything, so once they get married you are no longer happy because they moved on to a more serious stage in their life which is settling down. What I think about Rivera’s essay on her ideas concerning temporary marriages is a bad idea. I think it is a bad idea because once you decide to unite your life with someone that you love and trust; you should not be able to set a specific time of when the marriage is over or in this case when the temporary marriage license expires.  I think that once you decide to get married with someone that you consider being your other half, it should be forever until death separates you from each other. Yes , there might be celebrities that create their own families without getting married and I do not think that is ok because is something happens to the “husband” the “wife” cannot receive anything because she is legally not bonded with the “husband” nor she is not related to the “husband” at all so everything the “husband” had left for her went to waste or the government took it because nobody received it. So just to finish off, I do not agree with temporary marriage licenses because once you decide to marry someone; you are deciding to unite your life with theirs forever. I also believe that marriage is still alive in America, and that marriage is still a part of the social fabric. Rivera’s essay had a good result of rejecting the temporary marriage license.
